Some moments stay with you long after they happen.
A few months ago, while visiting Ebenezer Grammar School in Abeokuta, a school that benefited from the OPay Clean Future Project, I couldn’t shake the feeling that I’d seen the principal before.

“Sir, you look like someone I’ve met before,” I said.
He smiled.
A few moments later, it clicked.
He was Mr. Shobiyeju, my Physics teacher in secondary school.
For a moment, I wasn’t standing there as the Executive Director of Dolly Children Foundation. I was that student again, sitting in a classroom, wrestling with formulas and preparing for examinations.
Neither of us recognised the other immediately. Time had changed us both.
But standing there together, I was reminded of how beautifully life can come full circle.
Full Circle
Years ago, Mr. Shobiyeju stood before a classroom, teaching and shaping young minds.
Years later, I stood beside him, returning to support another generation through DCF.
It was a moment I didn’t expect, but one I deeply appreciated.
What a Teacher’s Impact Looks Like

It reminded me that a teacher’s true impact is rarely measured only by examination results. It is reflected in the lives they touch, the confidence they build and the possibilities they help young people see for themselves.
“Behind every leader, entrepreneur or changemaker is often someone who believed in them before the world noticed.”
Meeting Mr. Shobiyeju again made that truth very personal for me.
It also reminded me that every investment we make in a child can travel much further than we may ever know. It can echo through years, influence choices, shape confidence and, sometimes, return to us in ways we could never have imagined.
A teacher may teach a child today without ever knowing who that child will become tomorrow.
And that is the extraordinary thing about education.
“You may never see the full impact of the seeds you plant.”
To Every Educator
To every educator who continues to teach, encourage and inspire despite the challenges, thank you.
Your work matters.
Your influence matters.
And the lives you touch may carry your lessons much further than you will ever see.
That is the power of education.
If this story resonated with you, or if you would like to support or learn more about the work we are building at Dolly Children Foundation, I welcome you to connect or reach out. And if a teacher shaped your story, perhaps today is a good day to thank them.
