A week ago, we commissioned a new toilet facility at Ebenezer Grammar School in Abeokuta through the OPay Clean Future Project.
I know that may not sound like a big deal.
But stay with me.
A Barrier We Rarely Talk About
A school toilet is one of the barriers to education we talk about the least.
For many people, it is just another building. For a child, it can mean dignity, safety and better health. For some girls, access to a safe and hygienic toilet can influence whether they remain in school.
That is why this project matters.

One lesson my work continues to reinforce is that sustainable impact rarely begins with grand gestures. More often, it begins when we stop accepting problems that have become “normal.”
Poor sanitation in public schools has been normal for far too long.

It shouldn’t be. And it doesn’t have to be.
What Stayed With Me
Standing at the commissioning was a proud moment, but what has stayed with me over the past week isn’t the ceremony itself. It is the conversations.

Listening to teachers describe what this facility means for their students reminded me that some of the most meaningful projects are the ones that restore dignity in quiet, everyday ways.

A child who no longer has to dread using the school toilet.
A teacher who knows her students have a healthier environment in which to learn.
A school community that feels seen and valued.
These may seem like small changes, but for the people experiencing them every day, they are not small at all.
“Projects may have commissioning dates. Their impact doesn’t.”
The real measure of success lives in the ordinary moments that follow.
Creating the Conditions for Learning
If we truly care about education, we have to care about the environments where children learn every day. Not just classrooms and textbooks, but every condition that allows a child to show up with dignity, safety and hope.
“Education is not only about what happens inside the classroom. Sometimes, creating the conditions for learning begins with something as basic as ensuring that a child has access to a safe and hygienic toilet.”
I am grateful to OPay Digital Services Limited for sharing this conviction and partnering with Dolly Children Foundation to make it real.
Here’s to building more than buildings.
Here’s to building partnerships that change lives.
If this reflection resonated with you, or if you would like to support or learn more about the work we are building at Dolly Children Foundation, I welcome you to connect or reach out. Because every child deserves to learn with dignity.
